Feminist Socialism: Approaching socialist concepts from a Feminist perspective

Salt Lake DSA's Socialist Night School is a political education discussion and social group meant to help increase people’s understanding of socialism as a political horizon, build our chapter’s community, and teach ourselves how workers can form organizations to pursue socialism.

This SNS will be brief lecture periods (5-10 minutes each) that end with a discussion question. The groups will discuss each question for 10 minutes. Then a volunteer from each group will share with everyone. The readings will not be required for discussion, but will enhance it significantly.

Recommended pre-readings:

Core concepts:
  • Participants should better understand the relationship between the unpaid labor performed by women in the home and the capitalist hierarchical structure that unpaid labor upholds.
  • Participants should be able to communicate the reasons women’s liberation must be addressed when engaging with revolutionary action and the class struggle.
  • Participants should leave with actionable ideas on how to better approach revolutionary work in their personal lives with a more feminist perspective.
